Welcome to Chianti Country
After a day spent dancing between museum halls, surprise bruschetta, and Duomo sightings, we woke to the promise of slower rhythms and softer landscapes. Florence had filled our senses with art, heat, and unexpected kindness, but Tuscany beckoned with an entirely different cadence.
We left the city behind and followed winding roads lined with olive trees and golden fields of sunflowers—bright-faced and swaying in the afternoon breeze. Gravel crunched beneath our feet as we stepped onto the grounds of Fattoria Uccelliera, not the friendliest terrain for summer wedges, but worth every wobbly step. Nestled in the hills of Crespina Lorenzana, the winery waited to pour us into the heart of Italian wine country one glass at a time.
The owner welcomed us warmly, and to our delight, our group of seventeen had the place to ourselves. We began with a quick overview of their wines and a peek into the barrel room where Chianti quietly rested, waiting for its time. Then came the tasting: six wines, each with its own personality, paired with Tuscan cheeses, freshly baked bread dipped in olive oil, and the most surprising treat—roasted spring onions larger than a pearl onion, silky and mellow when bitten into. Their dried tomatoes were unlike anything back home—lightly dressed, bursting with flavor, and so delicious we ordered four jars of each to ship home, along with a few cherished bottles of Chianti.
We wandered beneath a canopy of grapevines before leaving, sunlight flickering through leaves as a soft breeze threaded its way across the vineyard. It was a gentle moment, one of those quiet pauses that settle into memory. Tuscany didn’t just taste good. It felt like a deep breath.

First sips and Tuscan Sunshine

Chianti bottles ordered: enthusiastically
Dried tomatoes devoured: with zero regrets
Memories made: countless
As the sun dipped behind the Tuscan hills and our glasses emptied, the day left behind more than taste. It left texture, laughter, and the kind of stillness you carry long after the trip ends. Fattoria Uccelliera gave us its best, and we’re bringing a little of it home in every bottle, every story, and every bite of those dried tomatoes.
